American Experience (1988)

Episode Overview

During the summer of 1931, the peaceful tropical atmosphere of Honolulu was violently disrupted when a young Navy wife accused five nonwhite local men of rape. What followed over the next days and weeks was a racially explosive murder trial that captured national headlines, inflamed Hawai'i's native community, and mobilized both the island's police force and the country's social elite.
