Plot

Tatjana drifts in solitude. Croatian by birth, she wandered through Europe before putting down roots in Amsterdam. Fifteen years on, her teenage son won't invite friends over—ashamed of her thick Slavic accent and un-Dutch ways. Yet a deeper wound gnaws at her: she feels like an outsider everywhere. Bent on fitting in, she travels across Europe knocking on doors, pressing relatives and friends for their secrets to belonging. Through awkward cultural collisions and casual prejudice, she at last uncovers a troubling thread buried in her family's past.
